Rob just set a new world record — a 1,058-yard shot with a 9mm pistol, the Springfield Armory Prodigy 5" Bull Barrel, on iron sights, no support, standing free hand. No bags, no bipod, no optic. Just a steady hold and a clean break.
Let that sink in: 1,058 yards. With a 9mm handgun. On irons. No optic to lean on. No rest to settle into. No magnified reticle doing half the work. This one came down to fundamentals — sight alignment, trigger control, and the kind of repetition that turns a near-impossible shot into a confirmed one. Standing flat-footed and free hand, Rob put the Springfield Armory Prodigy through its paces and pushed the long-distance pistol mark further than it's ever been.
The Setup
The Prodigy 5" Bull Barrel is a serious platform — a 1911/2011-style double-stack built for accuracy, with the heavier bull barrel adding the stability that matters when you're stretching the distance. But the story here isn't a scope or a custom rig doing the lifting. It's irons. It's a free-hand hold. It's everything Rob preaches: skill first, and respect for the craft.
That's what makes this one hit different. Anybody can get lucky once. Doing it on irons, off-hand, with the whole thing on camera — that's a different level of control. This is the standard Rob holds himself to, and it's exactly the kind of shot that built That Ain't Bad in the first place.
